DIY Lavender Linen Spray

DIY Lavender Linen SprayInvesting in good quality bedsheets can make your sleep soothing and relaxing. If you want to step it up a notch, try making your own Essential Oil linen spray. This is perfect for offsetting the stale odor that your sheets might have due to being stored in the drawers for some time. Lavender essential oil is a great choice for this recipe because of its calming properties that will also help you to relax and drift off to a sweet and peaceful slumber. Lavender is a favorite not only because of its soothing scent but for the many amazing benefits such as its ability to relieve pain, eliminate nervous tension, disinfect the scalp and skin, help people who suffer insomnia and enhance blood circulation, just to name a few.

Lavender oil of course comes from the lavender plant and is extracted mostly from the flowers through steam distillation. For centuries, people have been making the flowers into fragrant potpourri. Its oil is also a top choice in making perfumes, soaps and candles. Making your own linen spray is so simple and cost effective. You’ll save a lot in the long run rather than buying store bought sprays. Best of all, you can adjust the scent’s intensity to your liking. Here’s the recipe:

20 drops of lavender essential oil
One and one fourth cup distilled water
One tablespoon of rubbing alcohol
Spray bottle

• Pour 20 drops of essential oil into the spray bottle.
• Add one tablespoon of rubbing alcohol then using a wooden stick, mix together to blend and emulsify.
• Make a last swish to blend the oil and alcohol so this will mix with the water that will be added and won’t separate.
• Finally, add the one and one fourth cup distilled water and mix. This can now be used on linens as a great refresher spray or as a room air freshener.

Take note that if you do not add rubbing alcohol to this recipe, the ingredients will not bind together causing the lavender essential oil to separate from the water. This may cause unwanted staining and spotting on your linens. You may also opt to add other essential oils into the mix. Lavender mixes well with pine, cedarwood, clary sage, and geranium.

Try experimenting with different blends until you find a good combination that will help you rest and relax. These oils may also be used in your BellaSentials Diffuser to help set the mood. It will also make your bedroom have a peaceful and inviting ambiance. Now there you have it! We hope this recipe finds its way into your home. Rest well and live life abundantly.
